A deer at the edge of a wood is the winter image people actually have, as opposed to the one on a greeting card. It reads as calm and slightly private, which suits a card from a professional you trust rather than one you buy from.
It also carries no seasonal baggage at all — no religion, no holiday, no hemisphere.
