Within a week. The value is in the promptness — a card that arrives while someone still remembers doing you the favor reads as attention, and one that arrives a month later reads as admin.
Keep a box in the desk drawer. The firms that do this well are not more organized than everyone else; they just did not have to order anything first.
Who is worth thanking?
The client who signed, obviously. But the referral source who sent them, the vendor who moved something for you, and the member of staff who handled the difficult one are the notes that get remembered, because nobody else sends them.
Our minimum is 25 cards in 25-card increments, which for most firms is a year's supply.
